When the De La Salle Spartans—famous for their monumental 151-game winning streak and five national titles—decided to install a synthetic turf system for Owen Owens Stadium, they looked no further than Sportexe.
"Our players love the surface," said De La Salle head coach Bob Ladouceur. "The field is fast yet soft enough that the players feel better the day after the game than they did from our old grass field. We have played on sand/rubber fields sold by a [Sportexe competitor] and each time our players agreed that they like our field better, some players felt the other fields were just too hard."
Now the football stadium, named after Contra Costa County resident Owen Owens, a local publisher and philanthropist whose children attended De La Salle, has hosted the most successful football program, at any level, in the history of the game. "The Streak" as it is referred to nationally, which began in 1992 before ending more than a decade later in 2004, became the greatest feat of success in organized team sports eclipsing the previous streak (72) by more than double.
"The installation of the Sportexe turf has enhanced our athletic department in ways we could not have imagined," said Leo Lopoz, De La Salle Athletic Director. "The turf has allowed us to accommodate an extremely high demand of usage from a variety of sports and activities. The customer service has been excellent and I recommend this company to any organization interested in installing turf."
