In the spring of 2004, the University of Southern Mississippi turned to the Baltimore Ravens before deciding to replace their grass. At the time Southern Miss had four players on the Ravens roster, including Ravens' Pro Bowl linebacker Adalius Thomas. "Momentum is the next best thing to grass as far as I'm concerned," said Thomas. "The combination of support and give – for a synthetic surface – is wonderful."

"Since we installed Sportexe three years ago, our football program has received many benefits"; said Southern Miss Head Football Coach Jeff Bower. "The surface has allowed us to better utilize our team speed, from a practice, game and conditioning standpoint. When weather problems arise, it also has allowed us greater flexibility with our practice scheduling and lets us prepare on a quality surface.

During its 68-year history, M.M. Roberts Stadium, affectionately referred to as "The Rock," has housed eight conference championships, two national titles and has housed NFL greats such as Brett Favre, Ray Guy, Sammy Winder and Thomas.

"Excessive wear on our practice fields also has been problematic in the past. Having the ability to practice in the stadium has provided greater recovery time for our practice fields, allowing us to maintain a better surface for the team to practice on as well."
